Christmas is almost here….

Well Christmas is a mere three weeks away.  Time to think about Christmas shopping I suppose. Well here in Falmouth there are no shortage of place for the gourmet and stylish shopper.

First of all there is the delicatessen, All About Olives in Arwenack Street, which stocks an amazing (and appetizing) array of beautifully package salad dressings, olives, and chilli sauces, many of which are all locally produced.  To go with these there are brightly coloured olive dishes (complete with compartments to solve the problem of where to but those troublesome stones) and matching bowls to put olive oil and balsamic vinegar in.

Great gifts for the foodie

If you need some tasty organic and freshly baked bread there is only a short walk to Stone’s Bakery which (apart from Monday and Sunday) churns out divine home made cheese straws and bakewell tart alongside daily specialities like fig and walnut bread (check the daily board for specials).

For those of you who need a full snacks to sustain you on your shopping sojourns there are no shortage of pasties shops and bakeries to stock up with on way round (as well as the aforementioned Stone’s above).

Further up the Old High Street is Kit – a veritable treasure of all things both kitsch, retro and stylish for the home, they also have a sister store in Arwenack Street, which sells equally stylish and original clothing party garb – much of which rivals anything found in Spitalfields.

Being in Falmouth should also be no hardship to getting those gifts normally found in bigger cities.  All hail the phenomenon that is internet shopping  – okay it not such a phenomenon nowadays but with delivery now available closer and closer to Christmas by companies like the White Company and Waterstones (you can have books delivered to your local store free of charge) you really have no excuse to get everyone exactly what they want – even cheaper than before.

Personally though, the thought of a stroll through Falmouth finishing with a well earned beverage of choice, at The Boathouse, taking in its spectacular view (see the header on this blog!)  is winner in my book every time.
